Don’t Make Friends June 25, 2007

Leaders have to be respected, exude authority and even sometimes order people to their deaths. Because of this, it is a strong Sith belief not to be friend subordinates. If you become too friendly, it is very difficult to make decisions for the greater good of the Empire vs. your friends. You can also inadvertently display your weaknesses, which can be used against you in the future or will make employees lose respect for you.

Try to avoid lunch with your employees, and if business lunches are needed, keep them professional. Small talk is appropriate but do not delve into personal issues.

Personal life: Keep it at home; do not bring it to work. You may leak your personal problem to a trusted friend, but when word spreads, you will lose your authority and respect.
